WHAT IS A BRIDAL PROGRAM?
Your Bridal Dance Program is designed to enable you and your partner to confidently dance to your chosen song and make your dancing fun and enjoyable.
Your Bridal Program will consist of a variety of steps in the appropriate dance style for your piece of music. Whilst we can certainly teach you a fully choreographed routine for your bridal dance our experience has shown that most couples don’t have the time or the budget to approach their bridal dance in this way. Given this we find that it’s best to teach a variety of steps that can be lead in any order, complimented with a simple entrance to get your dance started to the music.
Upon completing this program you will be able to hold your own during your Bridal Dance, you will feel confident dancing with a variety of figures, good leading and following and dancing in time with your chosen piece of music. Your family and friends are sure to be amazed!

DANCE FLOOR DRAMAS
The Dance floor is one of the most important areas in a social celebration. Try to keep your dance floor close to the band or entertainment and free of equipment and chairs etc. Try to imagine how your guests will fit and allow for additional room for enthusiastic groovers. Some problems people have encountered are listed below;
- There is no dance floor at all
- The dance floor is nowhere near the stage
- The dance floor is obscured by tables and chairs
- The dance floor is so small it may as well not be there
- The dance floor is so highly polished that no one can dance on it
- The dance floor moves when it’s danced upon
- The stage is so small the band need to place equipment on the dance floor
- There are gaps in the dance floor
- Vision of the dance floor is obscured (difficult for guests to see)
There are sure to be more but these are a few to compare. Take the time to double check these will not occur on YOUR wedding day.
WEDDING DANCE TIPS
BEFORE YOU START:
- Don’t leave it to the last minute. (It’s never too early to start)
- It takes time and practice to look comfortable.
- Take the size of the dance floor and the cut of the wedding dress into account.
- It’s a good idea to practice in your wedding shoes.
- Bring in your song and we’ll suggest the dance or choose your style and we’ll help with the music.
WHILE YOU ARE DANCING
- Take a deep breathe and relax, we all rush when we are nervous and you don’t want to blitz through your moves before people have a chance to enjoy them.
- Tuck loose hands away (like when doing a turn), gentleman: behind your back, and ladies: either behind the back, across your chest or hold some of your dress.
- Organise a cue (like a dip) that both the Maid of Honour and Best Man (or your parents) will recognise as the end of ‘your dance’. They can then lead the rest of the gathering to join you on the floor, this way you can dance for as long, or as little, as you wish.
- Don’t stop moving, even if you make a mistake or get out of rhythm, people are less likely to notice if you are always moving.
- Look up at your new Husband/Wife and smile! This is your day, relax, enjoy and take pleasure in being the stars!
- Finally, if you have invested the time and money to learn to dance, keep practising after the wedding and it will be a skill for life, something you can share till death do you part.
AFTER THE WEDDING
Dancing is a skill you have for life, so why not learn with the one you love? Learning to dance socially is much more enjoyable when you do it together. Many couples have such fun when they learn for their wedding that they often asked “What can we do now?”
Dancecorp offers a regular Introductory Social Program for bridal couples who wish to continue with their dancing. The Introductory program allows you and your partner try a variety of dances and then you can choose which dances you would like to learn and how, for example, we recommend privates combined with groups and socials. In this program you will be allocated a ‘Key Instructor’ and a ‘Course Coordinator’. Your Course Coordinator will assist you with your Dance Planning and tailor your next program should you wish to continue.
Dancecorp has a wide variety of dance styles that you can choose from and your Social Dance Program will be tailored to suit you individually or as a couple. Generally most students select a variety of dances that will allow them to enjoy their dancing in almost any social situation such as weddings, work functions or just out socially with friends. Whatever your reasons for learning to dance you will find that learning together is a lot of fun and it’s also a great form of low impact exercise.
So don’t be content to sit it out any longer, let Dancecorp show you how you can join in the fun and be dancing for life!
